Baiken - Guilty Gear X
<back>

Worn at: Armageddon 2003.

Awards: Top Ten (I won a Yu Yu Hakusho DVD. ¬_¬)

The highlight of wearing this costume was that I got interviewed on TV - alongside Bex and Pixi, both of whom were wearing my costumes at the time...*preens* so I got to show 'em off and gloat some. Unfortunately, we were shown on Squirt TV (saturday morning kid's show...)...

The kimono was a bunch of rectangles, with a slightly angled neckline...and quite frankly I'm amazed this turned out okay, I was just chopping everything up as I saw fit, measuring every so often and hacking away some more...o_O what a fluke I didn't lose something important...^__^;; The obi is a strip of fabric folded slightly with that dangly thing attached and it fastens with hooks and eyes at the back with the black stuff attached to the bottom. To anyone who does this - try boning it, or using a stiff fabric. Mine kept bunching up and it looked like shit - as demonstrated in pic 1. Also a warning against coloured hairspray - avoid it if possible, it rubs off EVERYWHERE. Fortunately, it doesn't stain, but it looks horrible until it's washed off, both on fabrics and on skin. My neck was looking very sunbunt for a while. XP

The motifs I don't like. Looking back I can think of a few ways I could have done it better, but oh well...they don't fray TOO much...>_< damn. Should have painted them...but, they look quite effective from a distance. The gauntlet was simple, I just took some measurements and cut it out - The socks I intended to do the same way but just ran out of time. So, I cut the ankles and toes out of a pair of socks, glued 'em up, and tied ribbon around the top!

Photos 1 and 2 are mine and thankee pix for the last 2.

This one turned out better than expected... It's still unfinished here, but it's a nice pic nonetheless. Grr. Now this is a fine example of a strategically-positioned sword...><
