I-no - Guilty Gear XX
<back>
Worn at: Armageddon 2006.
Awards: None.
I'm afraid to say that when I wore this costume, I was not a happy girl. I had a HUGE headache - I'd advise you all to remember to eat and drink when you're at a convention! Between being encased in vinyl, havign a head squeezed by a too-small hat, and having the sheer weight of said hat balanced on one's head...ouch. Migraine material, people. I was actually pretty rude to a lot of people, just because I was wanting so badly to just get the hell out of there...ah well. Next time I'll have FOOD! Yey. Oh - and I got interviewed with Jo on Maori TV! She be the Justina in some of these pics.
I used the official game sprites and the character select image for references - the image on the left isn't actually what she wears in-game. The details are slightly off - but really, I like this picture a lot better than the others...better art. I am so shallow.
Okay - hat. I built the hate(hat. That is an awesome typo right there.) by adding a huge brim and pre-bent cone to the top of a cowboy hat I had lying around my house. This was duct-taped in place - NEVER underestimate the power of this wonderful thing called duct-tape. Never. It was then covered in vinyl, metal rings glued in place.
Wig was my Lucifer wig - my first ever attempt at cutting a wig. Didn't do a bad job, really - a bit wonky around the edges, but it's pretty much invisible when worn. Gloves were easy, because they are not really gloves. Boots were likewise fairly painless - I was very pleasantly surprised! I didn't bother with a mockup this time, just basically cut around the boots, sewed the first seams, and pinned it to fit. It ended up being taped to the soles of my shoes again, with double-sided tape holding it onto the heel and sides of the platforms - but really, it looks fine and help up just fine. Hooray for colour matching tape! The little strap details were easily added - but started coming off towards the end of the event. Serves me right for doing a crappy job of hand-sewing them.
Now...the DRESS. I had problems with this - I originally intended to have it pull on without a zip - doesn't work. It's too tight - I actually got stuck in it when I was trying it on! Very embarrassing, that was. So I added that in, and altered a bikini pattern to connect the collar-ring to the dress and cover my boobehs. I just used a simple panelled dress pattern, and did a double layer on it - the top one being detailed and attached to the buckles o' doom. I made the jacket separately because I wanted to strike her (in)famous victory pose without completely losing my dignity - hah. Guitar-wise - hell was I gonna be able to find an aqua coloured guitar. So I took my bass - and really, I think she matches a hell of a lot better...I mean red with aqua? Wtf? XE
Photos by my mother, Jimi, Nikki and Hish - in no particular order. And that werewolf in the second image is my baby sister...all grown up and posing with her big sis. Hah!
Also: the stormtroopers photo is my absolute favourite photo ever. I only got two photos though! A golden opportuinity for goofing off, missed. Le sigh...
