Second ever costume, first attemptd all on me onesies, so learned a lot making it...learned a MASSIVE lesson about satin - don't ever use it. Like...ever. She glows, she glows..

I used a costume pattern for a civil war-era dress for the bodice and simply altered the front slightly. I did have the skirt attached to the bodice, but I gave up on trying to get the gathering even all way round. So, I made a seperate skirt with an elastic waist instead. The gloves weren't too hard, but really fiddly to get the trim right. I ended up ironing vilene onto some scraps of satin, sewing round the circle edge and painting the details on then simply cutting them out. The same was done for the pattern at the top edges, and the stripes on the trim on the bodice etc...I don't have a very steady hand.

The hat was an interesting experience - especially since I didn't have Nik there with me to fit it on her, and my head isn't the same size. I got it right in the end though, and it fits okay. In fact, when I brought it to school to swap it with her for my pay, the hat ended up being worn in several classes by Na.
