Honda Tohru - Fruits Basket
<back>
Worn at: Armageddon 2004.
Awards: None.
Commissioned by: Joanna.
This was comissioned by Jo, and was my first attempt at a sailor-style uniform. I have now learned a few valuable lessons on how NOT to make these things, and which fabrics NOT to use. *dies*
Yes. The skirt was the easiest part of this costume, just whipped up with a pattern I already owned and taken in to a Jo-size...approximately four inches less than a Butterick size 6. FREAKING TINY! So that was done, now we moved onto the top...
The top needed tailoring to be small enough for Jo as well, so there was no drama there. Then came the collar. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, but I was using a stretch fabric and not a very light one. Result - when I sewed on the ribbon, it stretched and went wonky. It looked better after pressing, though. The other details, bows, cuffs, etc. were all easy and Jo supplied the socks and shoes.
